“My father was a knowledgeable amateur musician,” confides the founder of the festival. Towards the end of his life, he was accompanied by professional musicians with whom he gave a concert at our house in Saint-Prex; this moving and rich performance between a 90-year-old music-loving businessman and professional musicians Athéna Carte and Alexandru Patrascu remained engraved in our memories.
Upon his sudden passing, I wanted to perpetuate the musical and artistic heritage received and share it with a wider audience” - Hazeline van Swaay - Hoog
Hazeline van Swaay-Hoog founded the St Prex Classics Festival (later renamed Luna Classics) in memory of her father, Dick Hoog, to perpetuate and share the music he loved so much.
After the first edition in 2006, she invited soloists from Béjart Ballet to the program to include ballet in honor of her mother who was a professional dancer and ballet teacher.
The performances of the festival were enhanced by the beauty of the historic surroundings of St Prex: the church, the Medieval Village and later the LUNA amphitheater.
St Prex Classics was the flagship classic event in the Lake Geneva region. The festival was intended to be as much a springboard for young talents as a place of multidisciplinary creation, where ballet, chamber music and opera complemented as well as magnified each other.
